Setting up any project requires a clear understanding of one’s aims, goals and objectives. It means thinking long and hard, but it pays off. It always does.
Our aims
The participants will
- improve their English skills with film (innovative practices);
- broaden their knowledge of critical European values with language (a comprehensive approach to language teaching and learning); and
- raise their language learning autonomy with blended learning (a meaningful use of ICT).
Our goals
The participants will be able to
- read the screen and write effective film reviews;
- critically evaluate such European values as human dignity, freedom, humanity, democracy, the rule of law and human rights;
- effectively communicate their position in transnational teams; and
- skilfully use online resources for autonomous language learning.
Our objectives
- The participants will watch and review a 2017 American drama film Wonder, a 2005 British black comedy/drama film Keeping Mum, and a 2019 British comedy-drama film Blinded by the Light. As a result, three sets of film reviews will be written, and a collection of reflection papers will be posted.
- The participants will prepare for and participate in three value-based debates on such topics as “Human dignity in the light of European migration crisis”, “More or less federalized Europe?” and “Equality of opportunity vs equality of outcome”. As a result, three sets of classroom debates in transnational groups will be held, and a collection of reflection papers will be posted.
- The teachers will create three reusable pedagogical resources, each of which features two modules: “Language with film” and “Content with language”.
