If you have the opportunity to do an Erasmus, go for it. Even if you are scared or if you do not like to travel without your family. It is worth the risk, I promise.
My Erasmus was in Valencia (Spain) and it was honestly one of the best things I have ever done. I had so much fun meeting new people, learning about their cultures and visiting a foreign city. Now I am sure I want to do that again.
Of course, at the beginning, it was intimidating, because having to communicate with strangers in a foreign language is not easy, but everyone was in the same situation. Fortunately, from the first day on, we were mixed in internationals groups, so we were kind of forced to talk to each other. Once the “first move” was done, it became easy to communicate and by the end of the week, we were friends. I would have liked to stay a bit longer, because a week is honestly too short to learn to know new people.
Besides, during this project we lived in a host family. That was something totally new to me and I was not disappointed at all. It completely dived me in the experience because I learned about their culture, their language, … Also, it became easier to talk in English because we were always with international people, at school and at home. The family I lived with, was so kind and welcoming, and I never felt uncomfortable around them.
Anyway, this week is something I’ll never forget, because it was fun, and I didn’t expect to feel that sad leaving.
